Fashion in Detroit

Motor City transforms into Fashion City!

The Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak, MI; a beautiful setting for the first biannual premier fashion runway extravaganza...Fashion in Detroit. A brilliant idea by Project Runway Alum and Metro Detroiter, Joe Faris. Michigan is prime real estate now for new ventures and ideas as there is affordable space, enthusiastic and underemployed residents, and very talented artists so eager to share their talents and skills. But this wasn't just for local talent, national names came to take part in this event too such as New York Designer, Betsey Johnson and many more. This show had it all, huge tents, red carpet entrance, photographers, and fashion fashion fashion! I'm a Project Runway junkie for sure and am constantly amazed at the talent and imagination that people have in this industry. I for one do not/cannot sew; I'm a buyer not a maker for sure!
One of the lines I saw on the runway included Femilia Couture by two designers out of Ferndale, MI. Very feminine, soft, flowy fabrics, high style, very chic indeed...simply beautiful.

Designer Betsey Johnson did not disappoint. Though a well known national New York designer, Betsey has several stores here in Metro Detroit. This line drew a very large crowd for sure. Betsey is known for her fun, flirty, colorful dresses and shoes and the cameras were flashing nonstop for this runway show; so fun, vibrant and fabulous!

Of course the highlight for me was the finale show by Made in Detroit. Owner, Kid Rock, has asked Project Runway Alum, Joe Faris, to lend a hand in designing for him personally and for the line and this show was the debut of the new styles Joe has come up with for Made in Detroit. I purposely didn't ask ahead what to expect, I wanted to be surprised and boy was I. Dresses, skirts, bags, underwear, jeans, sweaters...OMG! So excited for the future of this line; the possibilities are endless! Now after all the excitement we wait to see what will be made from this line and in stock at City Style!
