  1. I live in Detroit, go to school in the city, and try to support Detroit companies whenever possible.

Unfortunately "MID" is no longer in Detroit, employs no Detoiters, and makes nothing in Detroit.

Now they're so scared of competition from a true Detroit company (Detroit manufacturing) that they're threatening retailers who carry both lines in an attempt to avoid fair competition.

I read about it at www.crainsdetroit.com/article/20090823/SUB01/308239922

City style is such a cool store, I hope they stand up for what's right and assert their right to sell whatever they want and serve customers by having the freshest goods.

Strong arming retailers and stifling competition are un-american. I'm not giving Kid Rock any more money.

  2. Hi Richard,
Thank you for the kind comment about City Style. We strive to have the best, freshest quality products for our customers and always take our customers suggestions into consideration when picking out product for the store. If our customers hated the MID product and didn't buy it, we wouldn't carry it. It's that simple. Fortunately that is not the case. They love it!

I have read about the 'turf war' between MID and DM and understand your point of view. We have tried other t-shirt companies and nothing compares to MID in sales volume and it is the most requested brand we have. We had other Detroit shirts and currently have other apparel but they always go for the MID product.

The MID shirts (end product) are designed and produced locally...though, yes, not within the City of Detroit. We nor our customers see this as an issue. The MID slogan means many things to many people. Some buy it because they were born in Detroit and maybe no longer live there or even in the State of MI but want it because it shows pride of where they came from. Some buy it because of the Automotive connection...maybe they work Automotive or were raised in a family of Auto workers or just want to show support to Detroit's Automotive heritage. Maybe their career started in Detroit, and so on.

To most, the slogan and the logo is bigger and means more than the t-shirt being made in Detroit. We see the bigger picture in that MID is a Michigan company and employs Michigan residents and pays Michigan taxes; and although City Style is not in the City of Detroit, we are an independent small store trying to survive and having MID available at our store certainly helps our bottom line and keeps us open and in turn keeps me shopping and living in Michigan.
