Jenna Kator Handbags

Jenna Kator Handbag Collection Now Available at City Style!
From time to time we come across a product that really moves us and touches something in us that makes us say to ourselves..."This is Us", "This is City Style", "This is what we are About", and we are so excited to introduce and now carry the Jenna Kator Handbag Collection at City Style! Why you ask? Because being a lifelong resident of Michigan, born in Detroit, I'm sensitive to our plight here and am fully aware of the way our State and our largest City are viewed by the rest of the country and maybe even the world for that matter. With all the negatives always talked about, I choose to focus on the positives. The culture, the beauty of our State, our resilience, our passions, our music, our strength as people. Now Jenna Kator...Jenna was raised in Troy, MI and now resides in Livonia, MI. She lost her job in the Automotive Industry a year ago and decided to pull her boot straps up and pursue a passion of hers and developed her own handbag line! The best part is that each style is named after a Michigan city, i.e. the Bloomfield, the Birmingham, the Grosse Pointe, the Royal Oak, etc...What's more, they are beautiful bags and come in a wide color range. Each bag comes with a fabric storage bag, many come with extra straps as well as a card that tells about the city it was named after. Now this isn't the first time a handbag has been named after an American city but to my knowledge, no designer has used Michigan as their choice of inspiration and named the bags after Michigan cities. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. City Style fully supports Jenna's endeavor and we are proud to carry a full variety of these handbags. I currently carry Charlevoix, what City will you carry?

Harvey's and City Style hit Vegas Baby!

January and February are dreary months at best here in the Midwest but it's also Trade Show season for Retailers and this is when we travel near and far looking for the extra special merchandise that lands on our shelves here at City Style. This month we went to Vegas and hit up the 'Project/Magic Show' for shoes and apparel as well as the trade show called 'Accessories the Show' looking for handbags and jewelry. Among the hundreds and thousands of brands, we met with our favorite handbag company, Harvey's, who produce the Made in the USA Original Seatbelt Bags. This company blows my mind with their innovative and stylish designs and they are becoming quite the coveted bags indeed; now often sought out by fashion divas who currently or formerly collect the Coach brand. What makes these bags so special, besides their obvious cool style, is the fact that they are made in the good ol' USA and have a Lifetime Guarantee. They are constructed using real Automotive grade seatbelts and come in all sorts of colors, sizes and prints. We are big supporters of this little USA company and are constantly getting new product as it doesn't last long on our shelves as they are quickly swept away by Harvey's collectors in the Metro Detroit area. Did I mention the people that work for this company are as nice as their product! City Style loves ya Harvey's!

Blondo Boots Arrive!

Blondo Boots Have Arrived!

We have added Blondo to our winter boot selections this year as they are the finest waterproof leather boots I've seen. Blondo is a Canadian company using the finest most supple leather and shearling available. The leather has been waterproofed as well as the seams and they stand behind their product and we love that! We must have a thing for Canada as we seem to keep finding the best winter boots made across the border. We also sell Cougar winter boots which are Canadian also. Canada just knows how to do winter boots!
Oh, and we have a couple handbags from Blondo as well just in case you're a matchy matchy girl...yay Blondo!

We currently have four Blondo styles in stock at City Style and sizes up to 11. If you're into quality footwear, Blondo is for you! I would put them up against Ugg any day for quality and price...just sayin'.

Fashion in Detroit

Motor City transforms into Fashion City!

The Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak, MI; a beautiful setting for the first biannual premier fashion runway extravaganza...Fashion in Detroit. A brilliant idea by Project Runway Alum and Metro Detroiter, Joe Faris. Michigan is prime real estate now for new ventures and ideas as there is affordable space, enthusiastic and underemployed residents, and very talented artists so eager to share their talents and skills. But this wasn't just for local talent, national names came to take part in this event too such as New York Designer, Betsey Johnson and many more. This show had it all, huge tents, red carpet entrance, photographers, and fashion fashion fashion! I'm a Project Runway junkie for sure and am constantly amazed at the talent and imagination that people have in this industry. I for one do not/cannot sew; I'm a buyer not a maker for sure!
One of the lines I saw on the runway included Femilia Couture by two designers out of Ferndale, MI. Very feminine, soft, flowy fabrics, high style, very chic indeed...simply beautiful.

Designer Betsey Johnson did not disappoint. Though a well known national New York designer, Betsey has several stores here in Metro Detroit. This line drew a very large crowd for sure. Betsey is known for her fun, flirty, colorful dresses and shoes and the cameras were flashing nonstop for this runway show; so fun, vibrant and fabulous!

Of course the highlight for me was the finale show by Made in Detroit. Owner, Kid Rock, has asked Project Runway Alum, Joe Faris, to lend a hand in designing for him personally and for the line and this show was the debut of the new styles Joe has come up with for Made in Detroit. I purposely didn't ask ahead what to expect, I wanted to be surprised and boy was I. Dresses, skirts, bags, underwear, jeans, sweaters...OMG! So excited for the future of this line; the possibilities are endless! Now after all the excitement we wait to see what will be made from this line and in stock at City Style!

Fashion In Detroit is a bi-annual two-day fashion event created by Project Runway’s Joe Faris to put a fashion spotlight on Detroit and create a venue that fills the needs of many locally based designers and the Detroit fashion community. FID’s Executive Committee is made up of the area’s heaviest hitters in fashion, beauty and event management, who are committed to creating a fashion extravaganza to rival other Fashion Weeks around the U.S.

Being a Project Runway junkie and lover of Detroit there is a 3rd reason why I'll be attending this year's event...Kid Rock's Made in Detroit apparel line will be closing the show on October 2nd! Kid Rock - Arts Beats & Eats

Kid Rock aids Arts, Beats & Eats
Adam Graham / Detroit News Pop Music Writer

Kid Rock is getting into the bailout business.
The homegrown rocker is tossing a lifeline to the annual Arts, Beats & Eats festival by sponsoring a stage at this year's event through his clothing company, Made in Detroit, festival officials announced Tuesday. Rock will sponsor the fest's previously named Big 3 Stage, which now will carry the name the Kid Rock-Made in Detroit Big 3 Stage.
"We heard the festival was facing financial challenges this year and thought this was the perfect venue to show our support of Ford, Chrysler and GM," Rock said in a statement.

"As a company, Made in Detroit always aims to help out people around the state who are facing tough times right now, and this seemed to be another perfect way to help out."
Rock's contribution to the festival totals nearly $20,000 and gives a much-needed boost to the event, which has struggled with sponsorship dollars in light of the area's fluctuating economy.
For the first time in the downtown Pontiac event's history, there will be a $2 admission charge for this year's fest, which runs Sept. 4-7 and has been newly christened by organizers as "Oakland County's Festival of Hope."
Rock's donation puts Arts, Beats & Eats within $30,000 of "being comfortable financially," said festival producer Jon Witz. He said a number of companies have been chipping in with sponsorships over the last few weeks, but the Kid Rock/Made in Detroit sponsorship "is the icing on the cake."
Beyond the financial support, Witz says the move is "a huge gesture" from Rock.
Rock, who performed two sold-out concerts at Comerica Park last month, is not expected to perform or appear at the event. He is booked for out-of-town concerts Sept. 4-6.
